Social Media: More than just likes


There is so much more to social media than just likes. They can often be confused with growth and success, which always isn't the case. Although they can determine whether or not people are engaging with posts, they cannot guarantee the authenticity of the engagement of that user.


At the end of the day, posting for your business is to ultimately reach both new and returning customers. As far as sales are concerned, likes just aren't going to cut it. This does take time, but if you are committed to your business consistency is key when it comes to social media. You will not go viral over night and see an influx of sales (unless you're really, really lucky) (no seriously, I've tried) but what you will do is create a strong message about your business and branding.


Utilise social media to the best of you advantage. Take a look at online analytics - see what works, what doesn't and adapt. You are not posting for you - you are posting for your audience. What do they want to see from you? What do they need that you can give them? Showcase that through your social media posts.


Take time out of your work schedule to plan a social media content calendar. I know how busy independent business owners are, but try and have a content day where you shoot your content in bulk sessions for the rest of the month so you don't have to worry about it for a while. Or, hire a social media manager either in house or freelance. This means that you can focus on the how, they focus on the why.
